Maha El Akoum is the Head of Content and Research Fellow at the World Innovation Summit for Health, Doha (Qatar). She is a holder of a BSc in Biological Sciences from the American University of Beirut (AUB) and a Master of Public Health from Imperial College London. Maha is also currently a PhD candidate in Genomics and Precision Medicine at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Qatar. As part of her role in the research team, she is the Research Fellow for the annual Islamic Ethics Forum, where she co-authored the WISH 2018 report on Palliative Care and Islamic Ethics. With a strong interest in patient safety, Maha led several initiatives on a national level, such as the Academy for Emerging Leaders in Patient Safety, the first capacity building program of its kind in Qatar. She is also involved in research on the role of nurses in creating a culture of safety in the hospital setting. As part of her role at WISH, Maha is also involved in research and content development, stakeholder management and partnership development, healthcare innovation programs as well as youth engagement programs. Before WISH, Maha was a research assistant at the Hamad Medical Corporation as part of the Clinical and Metabolic Genetics Division.
